Chinook Salmon, Walleye and Yellow Perch 9/7/03|
The walleye trip began as usual , drifting thru the middle of the perch pack north of Walnut Creek rods in hand. Yellow Perch hit the crawlers but no walleye on the first drifting pass. The perch numbers were rising quickly but no walleye. Kept moving west more and more with each drift thru 70 to 74 feet depth.
Rod bends over and a large walleye battles his way to freedom. Moments later, another angler feels the hit of a large fish swimming all over the bottom right under the boat. Nothing but rod bending power. Up and back down to the bottom it goes. Big cat No! Looks like a trout or salmon! Out to the side, up and down it battles to the defeat of it's in the net. CHINOOK!
Perch numbers kept increasing. Right now one rod in hand is about all one can handle with the crawlerharnesses and all these yellow perch. Shortly there after another angler feels the hit of a 8 plus pound walleye as he fights the battle to the net. Any body says a walleye don't fight. Catch one of these hogs drifting and it will change your mind. The head twisting battle is awesome.
More perch, a few more walleye and the day ended with a cooler full of good eating, two walleye over 8 pound and lots of fun.
