As good as it gets. Period. The jig bite that we experienced this past week for the Walleyes here in Port Clinton just could not have been any better. I'm talking hundreds and hundreds of boats and literally EVERYONE is limiting out. Every day but this past Wednesday was decent weather wise. Wednesday the N.E. wind was howling, keeping most everyone back at port. But right up to and right after the one day blow it was slaughter city.

Aboard "The Trophy" we still have been sticking to the beaches west of town. The best depths for us seemed to be around 12 ft. but I know guys were catching them as shallow as 6 ft. right on the beach. All the reefs were on fire as well from everyone that I talked to. The trollers fishing the deep water north of the reef complex as well as around the islands are all limiting out now also. Simply almost uncomprehendible!

I believe however that the jig bite has now peaked and we should see some sanity returning to the fishing. All of the male Walleyes we handled Sunday were quite dry compared to the spermy mess that they were creating even just a few days prior. We are still seeing more and more Smallmouth Bass starting to be caught along with the dreaded Sheephead. The water temp is now at 48 degrees and will continue to go up with the nice weather. All of this is a sign that the jigging bite is winding down.

I plan on putting a flat of night crawlers on the boat this upcoming week along with preparing the trolling gear. Hard to believe that May is here already and that the deep water fishing will be the way to go in just a matter of days. I hope to be able to milk one more week out of the beaches before we're forced to go look for fish elsewhere. If anyone wants to get in on some incredible jigging, we are down to our final days for that I believe. I happen to have a few open days this coming week. Anyone interested in a spur of the moment trip can reach me at 216-387-2656.
