Still great! We are absolutely having a ball with all the great eating sized Walleyes that seem to be everywhere! We are still jigging with hair jigs on most days. Although, the fish do seem to be going deeper now with 14 – 16 ft. being the most productive depth this past week. The absolute best area was off of Crane and Turtle Creek.

We did manage a couple of limit catch days on the east side of the range markers off the Moose Club but the water is so clear in there now that you really have to work for these spooky fish. The water is much more stained on the west side of the Camp Perry range making the bite much easier. This water is not muddy but just has a nice brownish color to it, and these fish are very active. The Smallmouth Bass are starting to go crazy. We caught and released about a dozen or so big football sized smallies. They put on quite the show when we hooked them with several doing some fine jumps. How exciting!

The trollers are starting to do very well with some of the post spawn females. Best action was reported around Kelleys Island. The talk on the radio indicated that the Perch fishing was also on fire around Kelleys and Marblehead. You got to love spring here at the Islands! This April is turning out to be the nicest April I’ve ever seen here at the western basin. Great weather! Water temps here are reported at 54 degrees, and I saw surface temps as high as 58 degrees.

Fuel prices at the marina docks held for the second week in a row at $3.20 per gallon. We’re just about a nickel away from me imposing a slight fuel surcharge on the charter rate as I had previously mentioned to everyone on our mailing list when we sent out our newsletters. Right now we’re looking at $5.00 a man should fuel reach $3.25 ($3.24 9/10) I am absorbing the lions share of all these fuel price increases but there is a point where some of these increases have to be shared. It’s a shame it has come to this.

Lastly, I would like to apologize for the pictures on last week’s report not showing up until days after the report was posted. There was also some funky text in last week’s report that did not belong there. Hopefully as you’re reading this, we’ll have those issues resolved.

Capt. Walt
