Summer is passing us by in leaps and bounds. Aboard “The Trophy” it’s been business as usual. Everyday has been filled with excellent Walleye fishing and loads of fun. For good measure, we’re doing a Steelhead or two on almost a daily basis. Not like the Steelhead bonanza years we experienced a few years back, but just enough to liven things up when you least expect it!

This year looks to go in my books as probably the best year we’ve ever had in 19 years of chartering for getting out. Along with the heat and humidity has come fairly calm seas. Unlike last year where we had a somewhat cool and windy summer, and many lost trips because of rough lake conditions.

The past week or so we’ve seen the Walleye action shift closer to shore. We are not seeing the big on slot of Sheephead either that we had to weed through the last couple years when the fish moved in. The only slightly downside of this late summer fishing this year has been the incredible abundance of young 14 – 17 inch Walleyes that are aggressively now attacking our lures. I’ve never seen anything like it! Next year these fish will all be in the 20-inch plus class. This is all the result of the record setting spawn and hatch we had two years ago in the spring of 2003. These fish will carry the lake for years to come. Lake Erie’s future looks bright indeed.

We still have a handful of open dates left for Walleye fishing in September that I would like to fill. We are also now booking Perch trips for this fall. Anyone interested may call me directly on my boat/mobile number (216)-387-2656.

Capt. Walt
