Ford River Boating Access Site Has Reopened

Department of Natural Resources officials announced today that the
construction at Ford River Boating Access Site in the Upper
Peninsula’s Delta County is complete and the access site has
reopened.

The ramp was in poor condition and required replacement. The
construction upgrades included dredging the boat launch area, installing
a new 36-foot wide by 70-foot long concrete ramp, and a new 5-foot x
30-foot universally accessible courtesy pier. The project also included
installing a new ADA compliant vault toilet and reestablishing the
parking lot area.

Construction was completed two days ahead of schedule, and the access
site is now open. These improvements were funded through the Michigan
State Waterways Fund. These restricted funds are derived from boat
registrations and the marine fuel tax in Michigan.

“We thank all boaters and anglers for this patience during this
time,” said Dan Dowdy, Baraga field office and state park supervisor.
“I encourage everyone to ‘GO-Get Outdoors’ and come see the
improvements that have been made at this boating access site, while
there is still good boating weather.”
