ANNUAL MOHICAN WILDLIFE WEEKEND SET FOR APRIL 23-25

Event will showcase dozens of outdoor activities in Ashland and Richland
counties

COLUMBUS, OH -- One of Ohio's most unique natural regions will serve as a
backdrop for the upcoming Mohican Wildlife Weekend. Parks and other outdoor
educational facilities throughout the Ashland, Mansfield and Loudonville
area will host the event, set for Friday-Sunday, April 23-25.
Outdoor enthusiasts can choose from dozens of planned activities celebrating
wildlife habitat, heritage and natural history. Scheduled fun and
educational events include pontoon boat rides, bird identification
workshops, wildflower and nature walks, a barbecue and barn dance. Some
events are free and some require a modest fee.
The featured speaker, botanist and birding enthusiast Jim McCormac of the
Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Natural Areas and
Preserves, will discuss birds of Mohican State Forest. The 4,500-acre forest
is host to more than 100 nesting bird species.
Wildlife weekend participants are encouraged to stay overnight in the area
of Mohican and Malabar Farm state parks to take better advantage of both
early morning and late evening activities. Lodging is available at area
hotels and inns as well as Mohican State Park Resort
