GOVERNOR RECOGNIZES SERVICE EXCELLENCE
IN SEVEN OHIO STATE PARKS

ZANESVILLE, OH -- Ohio Governor Bob Taft today recognized seven Ohio
State Parks with Service Excellence Awards, the highest award given to a
state park based on customer satisfaction.
Among the state parks receiving an award were Mohican State Park in
Ashland County, Stonelick State Park in Clermont County and the Muskingum
River Parkway in southeast Ohio.
"More than 58 million visitors enjoyed the natural beauty and
quality facilities of the Ohio State Parks system last year," Governor Taft
said during an annual conference of state park employees in Zanesville. "We
are pleased to recognize the parks that customers said exceeded our
already-high standards of service."
Service Excellence Award winners are determined by visitors to
Ohio's 74 state parks. Visitors are asked to rate particular park facilities
on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest possible score. To be
eligible for the award, a park must receive at least 100 survey responses in
a particular category such as cottages, golf course or beach.
More than 12,000 survey cards were returned to Ohio State Parks last
year as part of the Service Excellence Award program. Facilities and parks
receiving the highest average scores were:
* Quail Hollow State Park in Stark County for its picnic areas and
variety of trails. The picnic areas received an overall score of 4.5 and the
trails were rated 4.6.

* Headlands Beach State Park in Lake County for its mile-long natural
beach on Lake Erie. The beach was rated 4.3 by visitors.

* Muskingum River Parkway in southeast Ohio for its boating
facilities. Park lock and launch facilities were rated at 4.3 by visitors.
*
* Lake Hope State Park in Vinton County for its nature center.
Visitors rated the educational facility at 4.6.
*
* Stonelick State Park in Clermont County for its campground and
camping options programs. The campground received an average rating of 4.5
and the rental campsites received a 4.7.
*
* Mohican State Park in Ashland County for its cottages and resort
lodge. Mohican's family cottages received an average rating of 4.5 and the
lodge scored 4.3.

* Hueston Woods State Park in Preble County for its 18-hole golf
course. The course scored 4.4 with visitors.

Ohio's award-winning state park system is home to eight resort
lodges, more than 500 cottages, six golf courses and 57 family campgrounds
with more than 9,000 campsites.
