2001 MICHIGAN FISHING SEASON BEGINS APRIL 1 LANSING--The 2001 Michigan fishing season officially begins Sunday, April 1, and anglers now can purchase their new licenses via the Web site at www.michigandnr.com. By clicking on the e-license link on the DNR Web site, anglers can purchase their fishing and hunting licenses 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The 2001 Michigan Fishing Licenses, which are valid through March 31, 2002, also may be purchased at more than 1,700 license dealers and Michigan Department of Natural Resources offices statewide. The 2001 Michigan Fishing Guide, a handy companion to the 2001 Michigan Fishing License, is available where fishing licenses are sold. The guide provides fishing regulations and other fishing-related information helpful to anglers fishing Michigan's freshwater Great Lakes and inland waters. Major regulation changes for the 2001-2002 season are detailed on page 10 of the new guide, and a list of DNR Operations Service Centers, including their respective addresses and telephone numbers can be found on page 48. The Inland Trout and Salmon Guide 2001, a separate publication, allows anglers to easily determine the trout and salmon fishing regulations for a given inland lake or stream, simply by looking at a map. Anglers also may wish to make note of the upcoming June 9- 10, Free Fishing Weekend. For details on this program and more information on Michigan fishing, visit the DNR Web site at www.michigandnr.com, or call the DNR Fisheries Division at 517-373-1280.
